Conclusion
Our participants echoed many of the themes of our last report, reinforcing their commitment to digitalise, decarbonise and standardise. This time, however, the stakes are higher. The challenges that our leaders face have never been so complex and rapidly changing.
It is impossible to decouple politics from infrastructure, so the solutions to these challenges do not lie solely at the door of project leaders, their supply chains, or Government. They require joined-up action on all fronts.
For its part, Government needs to boldly reform and accelerate the planning regime to provide certainty earlier. It needs to shift its attitude to risk and join up R&D activity across the sector (and beyond).
Infrastructure developers must collaborate more closely with their supply chains and focus on bucking the historical lack of diversity in the delivery of infrastructure projects.
In turn, supply chains must show a willingness for greater data transparency to enable the sector to capitalise on rapidly accelerating technological developments.
The future will be a team effort.
